Our approach
How we support children
Observing and understanding
Your child’s key person and our SENCO watch how your child plays, communicates and joins in, and listen carefully to what you see at home. We pay close attention to speech, language and communication.Working with you
You are involved at every stage. We share what we notice, value your knowledge of your child and agree next steps together.Adapting where it helps
Most support is part of everyday play and routines, for example visual routines or extra time with a familiar adult.Reviewing support
We look at progress with you regularly and adjust the support where needed.
The graduated approach
Where a child needs additional support, our SEND Policy follows a four-step cycle that we move through with you.
Step 1
Assess
We observe and gather information to understand your child’s needs, working closely with you.
Step 2
Plan
With you and our SENCO, we agree targeted support and any adjustments, recorded in a SEND support plan.
Step 3
Do
Your child’s key person provides the agreed support day to day, with guidance from our SENCO.
Step 4
Review
We review progress with you, adjust the plan and seek advice from specialists where needed.

Susan leads inclusion across our setting. She works alongside each child’s key person and with families to plan and review support.
Working with families
We work in close partnership with you, keep you involved in decisions and share information about your child’s needs only with those who need it.
Working with other professionals
Where it would help your child, we work with the local authority area SENCO and with health and education professionals. If a child may need more support than we can provide through SEND support, we work with you and the local authority towards an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment.
Supporting transitions
We support children through settling in, moving groups and moving on to school, sharing information with the next setting with your consent.
